Cleaning House

I was hoping to get a lot of grading done this weekend. But instead I cleaned the kitchen, livingroom, and my room. Here’s a picture of what my room looks like now, it its mostly-clean look:

It may not look that clean, but the fact that the couch is clean and there’s a clear path to the couch is significant. I was partly motivated by the fact that I can now do video chats on Skype (see a previous entry), and I want the background to look good.
I also threw away (well, recycled) an old laundry basket of mine. I’ve had this thing since 1989 or 1990, I think. I bought it my first year of college. It’s long past time that I throw it away. I think part of the reason I kept it for so long is that it represented some kind of independence. It was one of the first things I bought when I was in college, on my own, away from my parents’ house.

And while I’m posting pictures from around the house, here’s a drawing that’s currently on our fridge, on a little magnetic white board. Drawn by our friends Ryan and Justin:

I shared your blog about spaces after a period with the “academic secretaries” and have heard back from one appreicative gal already. I hope you have kept up your room or in Pittsburgh lingo – kept it red’up. I laughed out loud about your laundry basket. I’m sure your mom was sad to see you leave home because you were the first and so much fun.
