Starting my 38th year

Today I turned 37 years old. But my favorite 2-digit number is 38 (as you can tell from the name of this blog). And 37 is my least-favorite number.

I remember wondering ten years ago whether age 37 would be a bad year for me, and 38 would be a good year, just because I (dis) liked those numbers. But then a month or so ago, I realized I was already almost done with my 37th year, and today begins my 38th year.

In order to get as much mileage out of my age as possible, I’m thinking of this as my 38th year, and a year from now, I’ll think of that as being age 38. So I get two years of “38″, and I pretty much skipped 37.

Anyway, I had a good birthday. I had to go to work, but a bunch of people wished me Happy Birthday. And as of right now (9:38pm), 38 people have wished me Happy Birthday on my Facebook “wall”. Later in the evening, I went to Souplantation with some friends.

Also, Marty (secretary in our department) made me a cake, here’s a picture:

Earlier in the day, I heard from each of my family and talked with my parents and my brother Joel. They’re all in time zones ahead of me. And although I didn’t get to see any of them, I did get to see one relative: my cousin-in-law Greg. He was on campus for Biola’s Missions Conference:

So, I had a good day, and I’m looking forward to the next year. The next two, actually. Well, I’m looking forward to my whole life, but especially the next two years.

See more of my favorite numbers.
